Moment of Hope Caught by Photographer Matthew McDermott

After eight days trapped in rubble, a beaming Kiki (7) emerged to the excitement of a rescue team. His sister, Sabrina (10) was also pulled from their fallen home. This picture speaks to the hopes & faith of many.

“They pulled him out and he immediately threw his arms out and smiled. He did it all on his own. And one of the rescuers then followed suit,” McDermott told Times.

“When it happened, we had to get back and look at the camera,” he said. “It was an incredible moment. You start losing hope after eight days.”

Recent Images of Note!

My piece, "Puck the Folice," for the City of Ink's 2nd year anniversary show, "Enough Iz Enough: Artists United Against Police Brutality" :

The wall of awesomeness. The painting on the lower right, "I Pledge Allegiance," was designed by mr. soul, the artistic mind behind the design of my piece and the Creative Director at the City of Ink.

My lovely friend, Maven D, with a copy of my book, [If] Life's Rotten, Write to the Core. You can purchase it here.

Revolutionary Inspiration

I'm still putting in work on my second novel. Experimental Fiction is exciting to play with. I've been brainstorming several elements that I could incorporate to make the manuscript a good read. At the same time, the story is about revolution, rebellion and change. I'm being very cautious about how far I go because I don't want the seriousness of the subject matter to be overshadowed by cheesy imaginative concepts. To stay focused, I've been looking at photography of past rebellions/riots, and a series covering the Newark rebellion of 1967 really caught my eye. This photo in particular, which really demonstrates how an out-of-control situation can begin to effect later generations. You can check out the entire series on the New York Times site.

Thanksgiving Redo.

I had a potluck yesterday to fellowship with friends. The menu was fantastic. We had bruschetta, dressing, mac-n-"cheese," yams, sweet onion & corn stew, potato salad and Tofurky w/rice. All vegan! I'm still stuffed. I didn't get a lick of writing done yesterday, but being surrounded by all of that positive energy and healthy eats was the perfect way to launch what I know will be a productive week. My girl TT Coles was in the house, camera in hand. Here are a few shots:

I'll be eating leftovers all week :-)
Dilla, my baby, was very upset about the lack of gourmet dog food, and TT Coles emerged from behind the lens to get a shot with me.

Promo Shots. Sneak Peek.

Face Simplicity. Love Life. Laugh.

Enjoy the Sun. Relax.

I'm Nice, But My My Words Will Slay You.

All photos taken by the beautiful TT Coles.

Care.

Powerful piece that I ran across today...

Does this mean no Heavy Metal?

I usually grow tired of waiting to get shot by Hannibal at the Good Times and Broke & Boujee parties. I stuck it out last week. By far, he's the freshest photographer.
